Slovenia is where I come from. Everybody has heard of France and Paris, but few people can place Slovenia and its capital Ljubljana.

Slovenia, which used to be part of Yugoslavia, is often confused with Slovakia, which used to be part of Czechoslovakia.

Slovenia is a small country in Europe (shaped like a chicken going East) bordering Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. It has many beautiful spots - from mountains, lakes, beaches, and caves (the Postojna cave) to beautiful castles and churches.

Our cuisine is very rich and savory. Some of the traditional Slovenian dishes are: potica (holiday cake filled with walnuts and raisins), prekmurska gibanica (pastry filled with walnuts, apples, poppyseeds and cottage cheese - nobody makes it better than my friend Majda), jota (pork and sauerkraut soup), regratova solata (dandelion salad), and traditional Sunday goveja juha (beef soup). With the meal, you definitely want to try some of the exquisite Slovenian wines.
